Limited (Sri Lanka), and other Group Companies of First Capital Group. He has extensive experience of marketing, business development and operations. He is the author of book “Lost To The World – A memoir of faith, family and five years in terrorist captivity.”
In late August of 2011, few months after the assassination of his father, he was dragged from his car while going to office at gun point and kidnapped by a group of Taliban affiliated militants called IMU.
For almost five years he was held captive, moved from Mir Ali to Zabul Afghanistan, frequently tortured and forced to endure extreme cruelty, his fate resting on his kidnappers’ impossible demands and the uneasy alliances between his captors, the Taliban and ISIS.
In late August of 2011, I was driving to my office in Lahore, Pakistan, when I was dragged from my car at gunpoint and kidnapped by a group of Taliban-affiliated terrorists. Just seven months earlier, my father, Salman Taseer, the governor of Punjab Province, had been shot dead by his guard. For almost five years I was held captive, moved ever-deeper into the lawless Hindu Kush, frequently tortured and forced to endure extreme cruelty, my fate resting on my kidnappers' impossible demands and the uneasy alliances between my captors, the Taliban and ISIS. Lost to the World is the true story of my time in captivity, and of my escape. It is a story of extraordinary faith, bravery and sorrow, with moments of kindness, humour and empathy, offering a hopeful light in the dark years of my imprisonment. While deeply harrowing, this tale is also about resilience. This story is a testament to the enduring power of the human sprit.

Taseer countered his captors’ narrative of a holy war by immersing himself in the Quran in search of hope and a means to see his own humanity under even the most inhumane conditions, and ultimately to find a way back to his family.
The memoir is a complete tour de force of emotions.

It’s rare to find such a good analysis of recent Pakistani history too, and a very clear-sighted examination of religious extremism in the country. It’s really quite a feat and a gripping read.

The fluid, often dramatic narrative is punctuated with raw, graphic details, but the author stops short of rendering deep political or religious insights. Nonetheless, Taseer’s story alone makes the book a page-turner.
